What Is Skin Glazing?

Skin glazing is a skincare-meets-makeup technique of layering hydrating products to create an ultra-luminous, wet-look sheen on the skin before or instead of foundation.

Skin glazing takes the concept of glass skin a step further by focusing on the layering process itself. The technique involves applying multiple thin layers of hydrating products—essence, serum, moisturizer, facial oil, and/or illuminating primer—in quick succession, pressing each layer in before it fully absorbs. The result is skin that looks dewy, plump, and luminous with a wet-like sheen. Popularized by celebrity facialists and TikTok creators in 2024, skin glazing can be worn alone for a no-makeup skin look or under a lightweight skin tint. It works best on dry to normal skin; oily skin types may find it too shiny without mattifying the T-zone.

Tips

  • Layer products from thinnest to thickest: essence → serum → moisturizer → facial oil → illuminating primer.
  • Press each layer into the skin with your palms—don't rub. Let each layer partially absorb before adding the next.
  • For makeup wear, finish with a lightweight skin tint instead of full foundation so the glow shows through.
  • If you're oily, skip the facial oil step and use a satin primer on the T-zone to control shine while keeping cheeks glazed.
