ZOEVA was founded in Germany in 2008 by Zoe Boikou, then 22 years old, after she found there was no source of genuinely high-quality makeup brushes at a price ordinary people could afford. She began selling brushes on eBay alongside her sister Barbara, and word-of-mouth from beauty bloggers turned the side project into a full brand within a few years.
ZOEVA became best known for its brush sets — particularly the Rose Golden and Bamboo lines, whose finish and hand-feel made them a mainstay of YouTube and Instagram beauty content in the 2010s. The brand later expanded into colour cosmetics with eyeshadow palettes, complexion products and lip lines, but brushes remain the entry point and the reason most people find it.
