Max Factor

Mid-Range

The make-up of make-up artists since 1909.

Max Factor is the Hollywood house that effectively invented modern cosmetics. Founded in Los Angeles in 1909 by Polish-American wig-maker and beautician Maksymilian Faktorowicz, the brand created make-up for the early film industry — Factor coined the term 'make-up', developed the first flexible greasepaint and Pan-Cake foundation, and built the colour-harmony shade system that complexion ranges still use today. Generations of screen stars were 'made up by Max Factor'.

Now owned by Coty and sold primarily across the UK, Europe and Australia (it was withdrawn from the US market in 2009), Max Factor remains a mid-priced mainstay famous for long-wear bases and mascaras. Facefinity All Day Flawless foundation, Lipfinity two-step lip colour, the Lash Lift and 2000 Calorie mascaras, and the legendary Pan-Stik are its enduring heroes — products that consistently appear in 'designer for less' comparisons against far pricier prestige bases.
