What Is Halo Eye?

A halo eye is an eyeshadow technique where the darkest shades are placed in the inner and outer corners while a lighter, shimmery shade sits on the center of the lid, creating a glowing "halo" effect.

The halo eye creates dimension by sandwiching a bright or shimmery center shade between darker tones on the inner and outer corners of the lid. The contrast draws attention to the center of the eye, making the eyes look larger and more luminous. It works beautifully with both warm and cool-toned palettes and can be adapted for everyday wear (soft transition, satin center) or full glam (dark smoky corners, glitter center). The technique is especially flattering for close-set eyes because the bright center visually pushes the eyes apart.

Tips

  • Pack your shimmer shade with a flat brush and press—don't sweep—to maximize sparkle on the lid center.
  • Blend the dark corners softly into the transition shade before placing the center highlight; harsh borders ruin the halo.
  • Use a wet brush or setting spray on the brush when applying the center shimmer for maximum foil-like payoff.
