What Is Duochrome?

Duochrome refers to eyeshadows (or other products) that appear to shift between two or more colors depending on the angle and light—often with a base color and a contrasting shift.

Duochrome shadows contain particles that reflect different colors, creating a shift effect (e.g. blue-purple, green-gold). They add dimension and interest to eye looks. They're popular in indie and mainstream brands and work well as lid shades or inner corner highlights.

Tips

  • Apply over a base (primer or concealer) to maximize shift.
  • Use a flat brush or finger to pack color on the lid.
  • Pair with neutral crease shades so the duochrome stands out.
