What Is Baking?

Baking is a technique where you apply a heavy layer of loose powder (usually translucent or setting powder) over concealer or foundation, leave it to "bake" for several minutes, then brush off the excess.

Baking helps set makeup, reduce creasing, and create a smooth, matte finish—especially under the eyes and in the T-zone. The powder is left on for 5–10 minutes so body heat sets the product. It's popular in full-glam and long-wear looks. It can be drying, so it's not ideal for everyone.

Tips

  • Apply concealer first, then pack on powder with a damp sponge or brush.
  • Let it sit 5–10 minutes, then dust off with a fluffy brush.
  • Use a lighter shade under eyes to brighten; translucent elsewhere.
