Prom Makeup Tutorial
By Viktoria @vioda.makeup · Updated
Prom glam is the elevated, photograph-ready version of everyday makeup. It should feel like the best version of your face — not a costume. The goal is makeup that lasts through dancing, sweating, and crying (happy tears), while still looking natural enough that you recognize yourself in photos twenty years from now. Think luminous skin, defined eyes, and a lip that photographs well from every angle.

Pro tips
- Waterproof everything. Waterproof mascara, long-wear foundation, and transfer-proof lip color will survive the entire night. Test your full look a week before to make sure nothing creases, fades, or transfers.
- Take test photos with flash before the event — some products cause flashback (a white cast in photos). Avoid setting powders with silica or SPF if you'll be photographed extensively.
- Do your makeup in the same lighting you'll be photographed in. If the venue is warm and dark, apply makeup in warm light. If photos will be outdoors, apply near a window.
Skin type notes
Oily skin: double down on primer and setting spray. Apply powder after setting spray, then spray again — this creates the strongest hold. Dry skin: avoid heavy powder; use a dewy setting spray instead. A hydrating primer ensures foundation doesn't cling to dry patches under venue lighting.
