Sisters Maggie and Leigh started Clionadh Cosmetics in Toronto in 2016 as a hobby project, partly because Canadians who wanted serious colour-shifting eyeshadow had to buy American. Maggie, who has a chemistry background, formulates and produces; Leigh handles design, web, social and customer experience. The hobby turned into a full-time business and, for a lot of makeup enthusiasts, the reference point for what a multichrome should look like.
The Stained Glass Collection is the reason. Its Jewelled Multichrome formula shifts harder and cleaner than most of the category, and the brand has built out roughly 193 shades across about sixteen distinct formula types — an unusually deep library for a handmade operation. Everything is vegan, cruelty-free, high-pigment and free of talc and filler. Clionadh is Ontario Made certified and has since expanded into indie holographic nail lacquer.
