What Is Long-Wear?

Long-wear (or long-lasting) products are formulated to stay put for many hours with minimal fading, smudging, or transfer.

Long-wear refers to makeup products formulated to maintain their appearance, coverage, and finish for extended periods — typically 8 to 16 hours — without significant fading, creasing, or transferring. Long-wear formulas achieve their staying power through film-forming polymers, high pigment concentration, and often transfer-resistant technology. Common long-wear products include foundation, concealer, lipstick, and eyeliner. The trade-off for extended wear is often comfort — long-wear formulas can feel drier or less flexible than their regular counterparts. Proper skin prep (hydration, primer) and setting techniques (powder, setting spray) can extend the wear of any product, but genuinely long-wear formulas hold up even without these extra steps.

Tips

  • Prime and set for best long-wear. Use setting spray to lock in makeup.
