What Is Lash Line?

The lash line is the line of skin at the base of the eyelashes where liner is typically applied—upper and lower.

The lash line refers to the skin along the base of the eyelashes where they grow from the eyelid. In makeup, the lash line is where liner, tightlining, and lash products are applied to define the eyes. The upper lash line runs along the top lid and is the most common placement for eyeliner. The lower lash line sits along the bottom lid and can be lined for a dramatic effect or left bare for a softer look. Getting products close to the lash line — rather than leaving a gap between liner and lashes — is one of the key techniques that separates polished eye makeup from amateur application. A tight, precise line at the lash line makes lashes appear thicker and eyes more defined.

Tips

  • Get as close to the lashes as possible for a natural line. Use a thin brush or pencil for precision.
