What Is Cream Blush?

Cream blush is a blush formula with a cream or balm texture that blends into the skin for a natural, dewy flush rather than sitting on top like powder.

Cream blush has surged in popularity as the beauty world has shifted toward skin-like finishes. Unlike powder formulas, cream blush melts into the skin and creates a flush that looks like it's coming from within. It's applied with fingers, a sponge, or a brush and works over liquid or cream base products (applying over powder can cause patchiness). Popular cream blushes include Rare Beauty Soft Pinch, Merit Flush Balm, and e.l.f. Putty Blush. The format works well for all skin types—dry skin loves the hydration, and oily skin can still wear it with a light powder set.

Tips

  • Apply cream blush before powder products—cream over powder looks patchy.
  • Use your fingers for the most natural blend. Tap, don't drag.
  • Layer a matching powder blush on top for the "blush sandwich" technique that extends wear.
