What Is Cloud Lip?

Cloud lip is a soft, diffused lip look where color is concentrated in the center and fades outward, creating a gradient effect that mimics the look of soft, pillowy clouds.

The cloud lip technique creates a blurred, just-bitten effect by applying lip color to the inner portion of the lips and blending outward with a finger or sponge. The edges are left bare or lightly concealed to exaggerate the gradient. Originating from Korean beauty trends, cloud lips are the lip equivalent of the gradient or ombre lip but softer and more diffused. The look pairs perfectly with dewy, minimal skin and natural brows. It works with any lip color but is most popular in soft pinks, mauves, and berry shades. The technique makes lips appear fuller and softer without the precision required by traditional lip liner.

Tips

  • Dab concealer or foundation on the outer edges of your lips first to blur the lip line.
  • Apply lip tint or blotted lipstick to the center of your lips only, then press lips together to diffuse.
  • Use your fingertip to tap and blend the edges outward — a brush will be too precise for this look.
