What Is Blurring Primer?
A blurring primer is a silicone-based or soft-focus primer that fills in pores, fine lines, and texture to create a smooth, airbrushed appearance before foundation.
Blurring primers use light-diffusing particles and silicone-based formulas to physically smooth the skin's surface. They create a "soft focus" effect where pores and fine lines become less visible, both to the naked eye and in photos. They're particularly popular for photos and video calls. Common ingredients include dimethicone and cyclomethicone, which fill texture temporarily. Examples include Tatcha Silk Canvas, Benefit POREfessional, and e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer.
Tips
- Press (don't rub) blurring primer into pore-prone areas like the nose and inner cheeks.
- Use a pea-sized amount—too much can cause foundation to slide.
- Wait 30 seconds for the primer to set before applying foundation.
