What Is Blotting Paper?

Blotting papers are thin, absorbent sheets that remove excess oil and shine from the skin without disturbing makeup underneath.

Blotting papers—also called oil-absorbing sheets—are a midday fix for shine, especially on oily and combination skin types. You press (never rub) the sheet against shiny areas like the forehead, nose, and chin. The paper absorbs sebum while leaving foundation, concealer, and powder intact. They're lighter and less messy than re-powdering, which can build up and look cakey by the end of the day. Blotting papers come in various materials: traditional rice paper, charcoal-infused, green tea, and even powdered versions. They're a staple in Korean beauty routines and an essential for event and travel makeup kits.

Tips

  • Press gently—don't rub or drag the sheet across your skin.
  • Use before reapplying powder to prevent buildup.
  • Keep a pack in your bag for quick midday touch-ups that won't mess up your base.
