What Is Banana Powder?
Banana powder is a yellow-toned setting powder used to brighten the undereye area and set concealer without adding a white cast.
Originally a staple in professional and theatrical makeup, banana powder gained mainstream popularity through beauty influencers and the baking technique. The yellow pigment neutralizes purple and blue undertones in the undereye area, making it particularly effective for medium to deep skin tones. For very fair skin, a translucent powder may work better since heavy banana powder can appear too warm. The powder is typically applied generously under the eyes, left to 'bake' for a few minutes, then dusted off with a fluffy brush. Ben Nye's Banana Powder is the original cult version; many drugstore brands now offer their own.
Tips
- Use a damp sponge to press banana powder under the eyes for a creaseless finish.
- Let the powder sit for 2–3 minutes before dusting off for maximum brightening.
- If you have fair skin, look for a lighter banana shade or mix with translucent powder.
