Thread Beauty is a budget makeup brand from the United States, founded in 2022 by Melissa Butler. It's best known for its $8 Gen-Z BIPOC-focused makeup, Multi-use complexion and cheek/lip sticks and Vegan and cruelty-free formulas.
Thread Beauty launched in 2022 as the Gen-Z-focused second brand from The Lip Bar founder Melissa Butler, built TikTok-first to reach young BIPOC consumers where they actually hang out. It debuted with three $8 multi-use sticks and bold Tiffany-blue packaging, centering an affordable, minimalist face routine — complexion, cheek and lip color you can swipe on and blend with your fingers.
The range expanded to around 500 Target doors plus DTC, and the brand named rapper Saucy Santana its first celebrity ambassador. Together with The Lip Bar, Thread helped make Butler's company the first Black-owned makeup brand to occupy six shelves of space in select Target stores. At $8 with multitasking sticks, it competes directly as a drugstore-priced alternative to e.l.f., Milk Makeup sticks and Subtl Beauty for a fast, easy, everyday look.
