Stila Cosmetics was founded in 1994 by Swedish-American makeup artist Jeanine Lobell — name derived from the Swedish "stil," meaning style — who was working as an MUA on Vogue, W, Vanity Fair, and Harper's Bazaar covers when she partnered with a small lab to create her own shades.
