Guerlain

Luxury

The Parisian alchemist of beauty since 1828.

France·Founded 1828·by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain

Guerlain is the oldest perfume and beauty maison in continuous operation, founded in 1828 by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain at 42 rue de Rivoli in Paris. The Guerlain family ran the business for five generations, creating signature fragrances like Eau de Cologne Impériale for Empress Eugénie in 1853, Shalimar in 1925, and L'Heure Bleue — perfumes that effectively defined what 'French luxury fragrance' would mean for the next century. In 1994 the house was acquired by LVMH, which has invested heavily in expanding the makeup and skincare divisions while preserving the heritage of Avenue des Champs-Élysées as the historic Maison Guerlain.

Today Guerlain sits in the LVMH Beauty division alongside Parfums Christian Dior, and is led by CEO Gabrielle Saint-Genis Rodriguez (since October 2023). The flagship makeup ranges — Rouge G, Météorites pearls, Terracotta bronzer, and KissKiss Bee Glow — share shelf space with Abeille Royale (the bee-honey-based skincare line that drives a significant share of the maison's revenue) and the heritage fragrance vault. Guerlain's positioning is the most overtly historic in luxury beauty: thirteen-letter Guerlinade, beekeeper conservation work on Ouessant island, and a price point that signals the difference between 'prestige' and 'maison'.
