Estée Lauder is a premium makeup brand from the United States, founded in 1946 by Estée Lauder and Joseph Lauder. It's best known for its Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation, Long-wear, transfer-resistant complexion formulas and Inventing the gift-with-purchase model.
Estée Lauder was founded in 1946 in New York by Estée Lauder and her husband Joseph, starting with a handful of face creams she sold and demonstrated in person at salons and department-store counters. Her insistence on letting customers try a product on their own skin — and her invention of the gift-with-purchase — rewrote how prestige beauty was sold, and grew the company into the anchor of what is now one of the largest beauty groups in the world.
In makeup, the brand is defined by Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation, a long-wear, transfer-resistant formula that has been a top-selling prestige foundation for decades and one of the most frequently duped products in all of beauty. Alongside it sit Advanced Night Repair on the skincare side and Pure Color lipsticks, giving Estée Lauder a rare position: a heritage house that still sets the performance standard younger brands and drugstore lines are measured against.
