What Is Full Coverage?

Full coverage means base products (foundation, concealer) that provide maximum coverage of imperfections, discoloration, and blemishes.

Full coverage describes foundation, concealer, or other base products that completely cover the skin, hiding blemishes, discoloration, redness, and texture with a single layer. Full-coverage products have the highest concentration of pigment relative to their formula, which allows them to mask imperfections that sheer or medium formulas can't. They're commonly used for events, photography, video, and by those with acne, scarring, or hyperpigmentation who want a flawless canvas. The trade-off is that full coverage can look heavy or mask-like if applied incorrectly — proper skin prep, thin layers, and blending with a damp sponge are essential. Many makeup artists prefer building medium coverage to full rather than applying a single thick layer.

Tips

  • Apply in thin layers and build where needed. Use a damp sponge for a smoother finish.
