What Is Cushion Compact?

A foundation or BB cream format where a sponge cushion saturated with product sits inside a compact with a mirror and puff applicator—popularized by K-beauty.

Cushion compacts originated in South Korea and became a global beauty phenomenon for their convenience and buildable, dewy finish. The product-soaked sponge dispenses a thin, even layer of base when you press the puff into it, making it nearly impossible to over-apply. Most cushion compacts contain SPF, hydrating ingredients, and light-to-medium coverage in a portable format that's ideal for touch-ups. The format has expanded beyond foundation to include blush, bronzer, and even lip products.

Tips

  • Press and stamp the puff onto your face rather than swiping—this gives the most even, skin-like coverage.
  • Flip the puff and use the clean side to press and set the product into the skin for a smoother finish.
  • Cushion compacts dry out faster than bottled foundations—store them face-down so the sponge stays saturated.
