What Is Brow Slit?

A brow slit is a thin, shaved gap cut through the eyebrow hair, creating a deliberate notch or line for a bold, streetwear-inspired aesthetic.

Brow slits originated in hip-hop and Black culture in the 1990s and have cycled back as a mainstream trend through TikTok and Gen-Z fashion. They're created by shaving a thin line through the brow using a razor or electric trimmer — typically on the tail end or outer third of the brow. Brow slits can be subtle (one thin line) or dramatic (multiple slits, crosses, or patterns). They grow back in 2–4 weeks depending on hair growth speed. For those who want the look without commitment, concealer or wax can be used to fake a slit temporarily. Brow slits are purely decorative — they don't serve a functional purpose but add edge and personality to any makeup look.

Tips

  • Use an electric trimmer with a precision head for clean, even slits. A razor works but is harder to control.
  • Start with one slit on the tail end of the brow — you can always add more later.
  • Fake a brow slit with concealer or wax: cover a thin strip of brow hair, set with powder, and the gap looks surprisingly realistic in photos.
