What Is Brow Mapping?
Brow mapping is a technique for determining the ideal brow shape by using facial landmarks—the nose, eyes, and brow bone—to find where brows should start, arch, and end.
Brow mapping uses three alignment points to create a personalized brow shape. The first point is directly above the outer edge of the nostril—that's where the brow should start. The second is from the outer edge of the nostril through the center of the pupil—that's the highest point of the arch. The third is from the outer edge of the nostril to the outer corner of the eye—that's where the brow should end. This technique has been used by professional makeup artists for decades and became mainstream through social media tutorials. Brow mapping removes guesswork and prevents common mistakes like over-plucking, uneven arches, or brows that start too far apart.
Tips
- Use a thin brush or pencil held against your nose to find each alignment point.
- Mark the three points with a light concealer dot before shaping.
- Your natural brow shape is usually close to ideal—mapping helps you refine, not redesign.
- Brow mapping works for all face shapes; the nose-eye alignment naturally adjusts proportions.
