Huda Beauty was founded in 2013 in Dubai by Iraqi-American makeup artist Huda Kattan together with her sisters Mona and Alya Kattan, growing out of a personal blog Huda started in 2010 to teach herself the editorial techniques she had picked up on set. The brand launched with a collection of hand-designed false eyelashes that sold out at Sephora Dubai Mall — the Kardashian sisters were photographed wearing them, kicking off the global publicity cycle that turned a regional indie into one of the most-followed beauty brands on Instagram.
A minority stake taken by private-equity firm TSG in 2017 funded the expansion into complexion, lip, eye, and powder — the #FauxFilter Foundation, Easy Bake Setting Powder, Power Bullet Matte Lipstick, and Mercury Retrograde and Obsessions eyeshadow palettes became the hero range. In June 2025 Huda Kattan repurchased TSG's stake and returned Huda Beauty to full founder ownership, doubling down on the high-pigment, full-coverage glam aesthetic that made the brand culturally distinct from the no-makeup wave dominating US prestige.
