What Is Lip Glaze?

A lip glaze is a sheer, glossy lip product that combines the pigment deposit of a stain with the high-shine finish of a gloss, creating a wet, glass-like look on the lips.

Lip glazes sit between lip gloss and lip stain in terms of coverage and finish. They deliver a thin, even layer of sheer color with a reflective, almost lacquer-like shine. Unlike traditional glosses, lip glazes tend to be less sticky and more comfortable, often with a lightweight gel-like texture. The color is buildable—one layer gives a tinted shine, multiple layers create a more saturated look. Lip glazes became especially popular with the rise of the glass skin and Korean glass lip trends, where the emphasis is on a polished, wet-looking finish rather than heavy color payoff.

Tips

  • Apply lip glaze over lip liner for longer wear and more defined color.
  • Layer two thin coats rather than one thick one for the smoothest finish.
  • Use a lip glaze as a topper over matte lipstick to convert it to a glossy finish.
