What Is Lid?
The lid is the mobile part of the eyelid—from the lash line to the crease. It's where base or shimmer eyeshadow shades are often applied.
The lid refers to the moveable part of the eyelid — the skin between the crease (the fold line) and the lash line. In eyeshadow application, the lid is where the primary color goes: the shimmer shade in most looks, the darkest shade in a smokey eye, or the statement color in a graphic look. Lid space varies significantly between eye shapes — hooded eyes have less visible lid when the eyes are open, while prominent eyes have more. This variation affects product choices and application techniques. For hooded eyes, bringing lid color slightly above the natural crease line ensures it's visible when the eyes are open. For all eye shapes, patting or pressing shimmer shadow onto the lid (rather than sweeping) delivers the best pigment payoff and minimizes fallout.
Tips
- Use a flat brush or finger to pack color on the lid. Primer helps color pop.
