What Is Finishing Powder?
Finishing powder is applied as a final step to blur pores, add soft focus, or create a polished look—often translucent or with a slight tint.
Finishing powder is a finely-milled powder applied as the last step of a makeup routine to create a smooth, refined, soft-focus finish. Unlike setting powder (which locks makeup in place and controls oil), finishing powder is an aesthetic step that blurs pores, diffuses light, and makes skin look airbrushed. Finishing powders often contain light-reflecting particles that create a subtle luminosity without visible shimmer. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is the most well-known finishing powder, with drugstore dupes like e.l.f. Halo Glow offering the same effect for less. Apply with a large, fluffy brush in sweeping motions across the entire face or just the high points for a targeted glow.
Tips
- Use a fluffy brush and a light hand. Can be applied all over or only where you want blur.
